Design, product, and travel intelligence. One brief, every Monday at 08:00 IST.

The week in five

  1. 1
Context Libraries: How AI Power Users Manage Context Engineering

One participant's podcast design guidelines leaked into a book-tracking app. For teams handing agents a design system, where those files sit decides which project they reach, so folder layout belongs in design system governance.

  2. 2
Festive travel squeeze: Domestic airfares jump up to 68% as flight options narrow

Seats held steady, so the squeeze shows up as fewer departure times on peak dates. Price-sorted fare search hides that. How many flights are left on a date is the number a festive traveller needs first.

    Travel Sector

  3. 3
    Many Agents, Many Views

The review artefact changes. A designer judging agent work from side-by-side screenshots does not open the code, so that screenshot note becomes the approval record and needs the naming and versioning a design file gets.

  4. 4
IndiGo Raises Fuel Charges for Third Time This Year as ATF Costs Surge

The rise lands on domestic sectors while Europe stays flat. A fixed per-sector charge weighs most on the cheapest tickets, so the bottom of the domestic fare range moves first.

    Travel Sector

  5. 5
ixigo launches ‘ixigo for work’ to simplify business travel bookings

Most corporate booking tools start from a company account. This one starts from a traveller with a GSTIN, which reaches small firms and self-employed travellers with no travel desk.

The pattern

In W39 we said the checkout goes to whichever app holds the traveller's card, and in W40 that travel brands will pay to be named inside assistants. This week Kayak's CEO said Gemini interfaces have pushed metasearch down Google's page, so traffic that used to come free now has to be bought. Skyscanner already has a live ChatGPT plugin.

Open bets we’re tracking

Do DGCA's November passenger numbers fall year on year on the routes where fares rose most, or does festive demand absorb the increase?

Signal of the Week

Economic Times11 Oct 2026

Average one-way fares for 1 September to 10 November are up 68% on Delhi-Hyderabad and 51% on Mumbai-Kolkata, per data ET reviewed. OAG data has October-December domestic flights down 5% but seats down only 1.2%, as airlines fly fewer, larger aircraft while ATF rose ₹16 a litre on 1 October.

Pattern

In June, carriers worldwide were holding fare rises of about 20% built up during the Iran conflict, and signalling they would keep them as fuel eased. India's festive data is the domestic version, with airlines trimming frequencies, not seats.

Industry lens

Fare-lock and price-drop products launched in September, ixigo's Smart Lock and MakeMyTrip's Price Drop Protection among them, meet their first festive peak with Yatra forecasting another 15-20% on constrained routes. November is when their pricing gets tested.

“The number of domestic flights scheduled for the October-December quarter are down 5% from a year earlier, while seat capacity is down just 1.2%, according to data from a global aviation analytics firm OAG.”

Design & Product

Anthropic's design team works in code from week one, while Orosz could not find one company where designers or PMs ship production code. B2B products get there first. With a design system and a knowledge base in place, a PRD is enough to start, and an HTML preview close to the real screen gets the design approved. Consumer products are a long way from designers raising PRs. There, a strong base can open UI-level changes to PMs and designers, but engineering makes the final call to ship.

Nielsen Norman GroupContext Libraries: How AI Power Users Manage Context Engineering

NN/G's study of Claude power users found they put more effort into context libraries than prompts, and often could not find the files Claude had written for them. One participant kept over 2,700 context files; another found a governing file he did not know existed.

Pattern

Atlassian published DESIGN.md in June and a UX.md was proposed in July, both files for agents to read. NN/G's study documents how such files go stale and get lost once people use them daily.

Luke WroblewskiMany Agents, Many Views

Inboxes and dashboards only answer what agents are doing right now, Wroblewski argues, and steering many agents needs views built for the task. In Intent, agents draw architecture diagrams before spending tokens, post before-and-after screenshots of UI changes, and read the same design-system note the user keeps open.

Pattern

Intent appeared on 1 October, when its sites bound agents to the stylesheet through an AGENTS.md file. Here the design system becomes a note that people and agents read together, away from Figma.

UX CollectiveAI skill atrophy: Are we forgetting how to think?

AI is not lowering intelligence, Polonski argues; it cuts how much of it people practise, so unused skills fade without anyone choosing to drop them. His opening example is the old landline number most people over thirty still know by heart.

Why it matters

The loss sits in skills nobody tracks. A team can watch output speed rise while the judgement behind its design reviews weakens, and it shows only when someone has to work without the tool.

Travel & OTA

Average Delhi-Hyderabad fares for 1 September to 10 November are up 68%, yet OAG counts only 1.2% fewer domestic seats for October to December, against 5% fewer flights. Airlines are flying fewer, larger planes. A list sorted by price does not show which departure times are nearly gone. How many departures are left on the date, and on the days either side, is what a festive traveller needs first. Away from the festive rush, ixigo's new Work toggle starts business travel from one person with a GSTIN rather than a company account, which reaches small firms and the self-employed with no travel desk.

SkiftIndiGo Raises Fuel Charges for Third Time This Year as ATF Costs Surge

Domestic fuel charges now run INR 375 to INR 1,300 a sector, 29% to 47% above April levels, while the Europe charge stays at INR 10,000. IndiGo cited a month-on-month ATF rise above 14% and posted a INR 2.4 billion net loss in the June quarter.

Pattern

Third fuel-charge round this year. In May, IndiGo and Air India cut June-July domestic flights over jet fuel prices; the same cost is now reaching travellers through both surcharges and the frequency cuts in this week's festive fare data.

The Wireixigo launches ‘ixigo for work’ to simplify business travel bookings

A Work toggle in the ixigo app shows eligible corporate fares next to regular ones on domestic flights, with lower change fees, free seats and meals, and a saved GSTIN for input credit. No business account is needed, and the Assured full-refund add-on sits on top.

Pattern

Two months after ixigo was reported to be exploring corporate travel, this is the first product, and a deliberately light one. Yatra has used this year's disruption to go deeper into corporate travel from the other end.

MedianamaWhat the TravClan Deal Means for Flipkart’s Travel Push

A minority stake in TravClan, a B2B platform that says 15,000 travel agents use it to build and book packages, is meant to strengthen international holidays across Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel. Terms were not disclosed, and TravClan will spend the money on supply and destination expansion.

Pattern

Cleartrip entered India's fragmented holiday package market on 28 September, so this is Flipkart's second packages move in a fortnight. ixigo tested packaged train tours in August.

Signals worth keeping

“The number of domestic flights scheduled for the October-December quarter are down 5% from a year earlier, while seat capacity is down just 1.2%, according to data from a global aviation analytics firm OAG.”

“IndiGo said the latest month-on-month increase in ATF prices has exceeded 14%, taking fuel costs to among their highest levels in the past decade.”

“Travellers can simply switch on ‘ixigo for work’ before searching for domestic flights to discover and compare eligible corporate fares alongside regular fares.”

“By contracting directly with suppliers and operating our own ground teams, we are able to offer competitive prices and deliver a consistent experience.”

“Almost nobody in our study typed directly into their context files.”

“Agents can take before and after screenshots of their UI changes and place them side by side in a note letting you judge results without reading any code.”

Editor’s note

Search for a flight on a festive date and the first price sounds cheap. Then you see when it leaves. It is a red-eye, and the next one at an hour you would actually take costs a lot more. I know this from my own trips and from friends, and how bad it gets depends on the sector. This week's numbers explain some of it: airlines are cutting flights faster than seats, so there are fewer times to pick from. On a peak date, would you rather see the cheapest fare first, or the departure times still left?
