Average Delhi-Hyderabad fares for 1 September to 10 November are up 68%, yet OAG counts only 1.2% fewer domestic seats for October to December, against 5% fewer flights. Airlines are flying fewer, larger planes. A list sorted by price does not show which departure times are nearly gone.

Search for a flight on a festive date and the first price sounds cheap. Then you see when it leaves. It is a red-eye, and the next one at an hour you would actually take costs a lot more. I know this from my own trips and from friends, and how bad it gets depends on the sector. This week's numbers explain some of it: airlines are cutting flights faster than seats, so there are fewer times to pick from. On a peak date, would you rather see the cheapest fare first, or the departure times still left?
